Details

This bass has been my main player for the last 6 or so years and has served me very well.

When I bought the bass, it had a bright blue rattle can paint job, a dimarzio pickup and a mirror pickguard. Despite this, it played and sounded great.

I sent it off to Ben Lindsey to see what could be done with it. Ben confirmed that all but the pickup, electronics and pickguard were original and the neck appeared to have the original finish. Ben stripped the bright blue rattle can paint and refinished the body in sunburst using nitro and lightly reliced it to match the body's natural wear and such. He installed a Lollar pickup with vintage type wiring and controls and even used a vintage style copper pickguard shield and pickup shield plate. He used a Pickguardian tortoise guard and reliced it to match the bass.

It's now strung with older (read broken in and sounding great) Thomastik Infeld Super Alloy strings and set up with low action but no clanks and such. It plays and sounds incredible.

So, except for the body finish, pickup, electronics (the knobs appear to be original according to Ben) and pickguard, all appears to be original to this 1963 Fender Precision Bass.

I'm not completely convinced I want to sell it, but I'm not gigging anymore and could use the cash for family stuff.

$3300 including FedEx ground insured shipping in the conus. I'll ship internationally if I can remove the neck and the buyer pays actual shipping cost via USPS.

forgot to mention that this bass is very light. my scale says a bit under 8 lbs, tho it's a home scale and not terribly accurate under 10 lbs. i assume the body is alder.

a nice gig bag is also included.
