Now for sale: 1200.00 shipped. I have my eye on a couple of basses and if they sell first I am pulling this thread and will keep the bass.

This has been THE best playing bass I have ever had and I have had quite a few (MTD, KSmith, Roscoe, Sad). The the neck is incredible, Bart Bart electronics. The previous owner installed series / parallel switches (one for each pickup) which does provide alot of tonal possibilities.

It does have that "classic" tobias sound as well.

I installed the new MTD knobs on it when I picked it up in Feb this year at the Atlanta Bass Gallery.

Why the feeler:
GAS is a terrible thing as I am just curious to see what might be offered.

The serial number is either 2114/2144 or something like that, I just dont remember, so it is a Gibson, but I have never concerned myself with that.

I am looking for 5 strings. For some reason I am looking for Laklands...a DJ5, JO5, 55**. But willing to consider what you have of make model.

I have tried to obtain detailed information on the bass with no success. I put the value at around 1400.00 or maybe slightly higher.

Will post more pics later.

The year and serial number don't seem to match up. Mike left Tobias in 92 after serial #2044. If it is a 91, it is still considered pre-Gibson. Would you double check the serial number to be sure? It should be located in 3 different spots.

Sorry for confusion on the date, no harm intended. I did check by calling my wife at home for the ser#...2213. Possibly a 92-93?

Title changed..

A very sexy looking bass! (I love zebrawood!)

Based on the pickup appearance and slight gap around them, I'd say the original curved "RT" Barts have been replaced with newer dual-coil "Classic Bass" Barts, or similar, which is actually a good thing! I had an early Gibson Tobias a few years back and the stock pickups that Gibson fitted were far too curved for the flat fingerboard radius, so I could never get it setup perfectly. Putting in flat Barts made a huge difference to the setup and gave me the coil-split option too, which was even better! (This is not an unusual story, I've seen it happen before.)

Definitely don't want to put anyone off, in fact, the opposite, it should be a great bass and actually sound better than when it was made. :)

Cheers,

EG

Thanks evilgus...The previous owner is here on TB and he has sent me a pm. He did in fact replace the old pickups and the pre for the current setup. The switches installed are coiltap for each pickup.

As I said before this is one heck of a bass. I played it last night at church and it just kills in the mix.

I do have a couple of serious trade offers that are in play but are not concrete.

I will pass on shipping to Hong Kong.

Bump to the top...
