For sale Kay M-1, Chicago area

Serial number dates the instrument to 1965 according to the KayBass.com serial number list. Instrument is in good overall shape and is a good "player" instrument. There is some delamination at the edges, worst on one of the rear lower bouts (see pic) but nothing that makes the instrument look too bad IMO. I have it strung up with a set of Velvet Anima strings and they're a pretty good mate for the bass (again in my opinion).

The bridge is not fitted with adjusters; I'm pretty happy with the setup, but clearly each person is different. See pics for the measurement of the string height (measurement is at the mid-string harmonic). With this current set of strings the height is a nice balance of room to dig in and let the lower-tension string vibrate vs low enough not to get tired.

The endpin is also not especially long, so tall people should beware that a new endpin may be needed for you (see pic). Also please note that I do not have an extra case for the instrument, please bring your own. If the lack of case is a deal-breaker let me know and I'll ask around for an old one.

I am located in Milwaukee, WI. It's only about 90 minutes drive from Chicago.

Here's a simple recording I made of the instrument. It is a CAD M179 mic into my computer, no eq or any manipulation. The mic was 2 or 3 feet in front of the instrument, about bridge height. Nothing fancy, but you can get an idea of the sound.

Overall what you see here is a basic Kay bass with no fancy upgrades, a normal player's bass. Price is $1500 firm. I'm available weeknight evenings and weekends if you'd like to check it out.
