NBD: Why Can’t I Quit You?

Before I was a full blown GASaholic, I played a purple EBMM Stingray 5. I ended up giving that bass to young bass player who needed a nice instrument. But I quickly replaced the purple with a honey burst SR5 that I played exclusively for over 10 years. Then I joined TalkBass and the rest is history… :rollno::roflmao:

Fast forward to about a year and a half ago. I was introduced to the EBMM color, “Purple Sunset” and fell in love. So in a total fever, I bought one of the first ones released. Sadly, I had to return it because of a financial thing. But after some time, I found another one that was even prettier… aaaaand turns out it had a truss rod that slipped. So it also got returned. Ugh!!

I’ve thought about Purple Sunset for over a year. And then, out of nowhere, this one showed up and it’s the nicest one of all.

It always feels right to have a Stingray on the rack. And this one is a stunner!

I don't think it's a technical term... just the best way I know how to describe it. Basically, the bass wouldn't hold the action. It was setup with nice, low action and the next day, there was significantly more relief. It may not be a 'slip' but the truss rod wouldn't hold the neck straight.

Purple Sunset is one of those schemes that moves the dial. In spite of being opposite each other on the colour wheel, they create harmony not contrast. Or maybe it's because purple and gold were my old school colours. I don't know. But it really works, and I imagine it would look great under lights. It's a shame that it isn't available in the Design Experience, which excludes the fretless option.

@LadyLoveStingRay5 - didn't you create a mix'n'match fretless in Purple Sunset from your extensive collection?

Yes I created mine from these 2 basses. I was already considering refinishing my Fuego BFR. Once the sunset purple was released I knew what had to be done . No regrets !!!

FWIW, I believe your re-necked Fuego has resurfaced and is for sale again on GC's used gear page. This time, the store doesn't seem to have factored the neck swap into the price. (I know that's nothing to do with you.)
I love the Fuego neck on the Purple Sunset body!
