Could you explain the fretboard? I've never seen maple that dark before.

Impregnation stabilizes dimensions, increases strength and resistance to water, moisture, and chemicals, and reduces cracking. I assume the epoxy impregnation also acts as a finish that produces that darker color. In person it's a lot easier to see that natural maple color popping out from underneath, and it plays just like a maple fretboard. If you would like I can get more information from Chris.

I also have a maple neck with a birdseye maple fretboard that was the original neck for this bass. The first owner (I am the second) had it built with a birdseye fretboard and did an 'at-home' defretting job on it himself. He then decided to have the pictured neck built fretless with epoxy impregnated fretboard by Chris.

If I could afford to buy it (I want it) I'd certainly ask you to go through the trouble. But as I'm likely not a prospective buyer, I appreciate the answer you've supplied!

34" scale. Just measured string spacing and it appears to be 20mm. Measured 2.375inches from center of E string to center of G string at the bridge. Divide that by 3 and get .792inches which converts to 20mm.

Yeah do send some pictures! I made the switch from D'addario Chromes Flatwounds to D'addario Half Wounds a couple of months ago. I can send you close-up pics of fretboard to show that there was no increase in wear when I made the switch if you'd like.

Hey - I remember that bass!

Just for the sake of accuracy, that is actually my earlier "Sylph" shape, as opposed to the Elfin.
That's actually the first 5-string I made in that style. It originally sold through Atlanta Bass Gallery.

Cheers,
Martin Keith
