Rickenbacker 4001 - 1979 Red Fireglo
The bass looks and sounds great. There are some light scratches (and one larger ding on horn near the strap button) that you would expect from over the years. I did not use this bass much over the ten years I’ve owned it and it looks like it was not used much with previous owners.
Serial number SJ 4860. I purchased this bass ten years ago in 2013, and the previous owner had owned it since 1984 when he purchased from Rudys Guitar Shop on 48th Street in NYC. I don’t know how many owners had owned the bass between 1979 and 1984.
Two blemishes worth pointing out:
1. There is a ding on the back of the upper horn near the strap button. Picture attached.
2. the plastic coverplate on the headstock is broken by one of the corners and is held in place by one of the screws. It covers the twin truss rods, I have never adjusted the truss rods and they look to be in working order.
The playability and tone of the bass is great. $2,900.
Bass comes in a hardshell case, which looks to be original – it works but it’s old.
