I have two Century's and one has got to go. I'm holding on to the black onyx Century Std. which is a tad lighter than the Plus I'm offering up today. Here's the dope:

*3 piece maple neck
*Wenge fingerboard!
*Ash body
*Bookmatched cocobolo cap
*Bart pickups / preamp
*Volume, blend, bass, mid (selectable), treble
*Hipshot tuners (abbreviated posts) and "B" bridge
*Dunlop straplocks
*Weight - 9.25-9.5 lbs
*Condition - Near mint (see comment below)
*Hardshell case in great condition
*Recently strung w/ DR Hibeams

Note: there is a slight cocobolo grain crack fissure which runs diag'ly from the bridge to the lower bout. It can be seen up close but does not detract from the overall appearance or playability. This sorta thing happens with certain wood species. One could back fill with cocobolo dust but why monkey around with it?

I'm asking $1450 shipped in the lower 48 but will consider trade + cash offers provided it nets me ~$500. Questions, comments? Send me a PM and I'll do my best!

Sorry, can't add any cash for a trade-up! Here's your chance to save a lot of dough on a really sharp Century 5. FWIW, the wenge fingerboard puts this one over the top in the tone dept.

Two days in and already a couple of great trade offers. Cash is always king and I can extend a little wiggle-room for a full-cash offer. Couple other tidbits:

*I've played a handful of the high-end Roscoes but have found the Century body style to be the most comfortable. YMMV!

*The maple neck / wenge fingerboard combo almost sings with a perfectly voiced / balanced attack which I have not found in comparable maple or rosewood instruments.

I am in complete agreement here, I have a CS Plus and a Century Sig and the body fits me perfect. Think of the body as a very nicely contoured jazz bass as it is about the same size but much more comfortable.

Just in case you forgot how beautiful this bass looks.

Man, you just keep putting all these basses in the classifieds and I want all of them. If this has 19mm spacing at the bridge I'd be interested.

I tried the black Century Standard today and really loved it! Actually I'm looking for the Century Standard. But please describe me where they differ in terms of tone and neck. Is it the same neck, same dimensions and playability?

Our buddy, Gard, can best describe any build differences aside from the figured cocobolo cap. If any exist, they are subtle at best. The wenge fingerboard imparts a different tonal character; stronger low-mids which sound ever-so-slightly compressed and a smoother transparent high end. The necks feel pretty much alike as does overall playability. As mentioned, the Plus is about a half pound heavier than my black onyx Standard.

Sorry, but its measuring out to 18 mm center-to-center with my handy-dandy metric pocket rule. The Plus sports the Hipshot "B" bridge which does not offer variable spacing.

The Cocobolo does change the resonance characteristics of a solid piece of ash slightly. Ash has its only resonance and when you glue another piece of wood on top, it will alter it slightly but it will still sound like ash with a slight less upper mid. The Wenge board leads itself to more of the lower mid tone.

For me, I would prefer the Cocobolo/Wenge Century Standard. I like the low mid bump that comes from the Wenge without the upper mids being in your face.

To sum it up: For a jazzy sound I get more out of this one where as for slapping I might lack a little of that crispiness which is better with the standard? It's hard to find the right words in English. :)

Not at all, the Bartolini Electronics are very versatile on this bass, bump the treble a hair and you have plenty of crispness.

Getting close to the holidays, unemployment is ~ 10%, not much disposable income, etc....I understand. That's why I'm weighing all cash, trade & cash, and full trade offers. This is your chance to snag what was supposed to be an "entry level" Roscoe 5. Keith / Gard & co. really outdid themselves this go-round...same top-shelf woods, hardware, and electronics but without the fancy (and expensive!) ornate wood combinations. All the tone and playability you'd expect at half the price.

To keep things looking nice, I'll throw in a bottle of Howard's Wax 'n Feed and Tru-oil gunstock oil. I also have the original truss rod wrench which is pretty much a standard hex key with half the short arm cut off.
