Hi all, With all the great reviews of the new Marcus Miller V7s and M3s coming onto the board, I decided to start a Sire Bass club. Please post your model, color/wood combination and a picture to get a number! Hello everyone ... today I received from Thomann the Miller v7 5 strings tsb. ..if be honest i'm not very satisfied ... what gauges are the strings? are nickel? I can not get a low action with no buzz ... Can you measure the action at last fret please? I think I'm going to visit the luthier and I hear what he say aborto the bass ... otherwise, I have to send it back to Thomann
Check your neck relief, it may be too flat, several of them have been. If you fret a string at the highest fret, how high off the string is it at the 12th fret? If it touches any of the frets (other than the next lower one from where you're fretting), then there's not enough relief or the nut slot is cut too low. If that's the case, detune, loosen the truss rod 1/4 turn counterclockwise, give the neck some time to adjust and try again. That is, it could still be a minor setup issue caused by environmental changes during shipping (temp, humidity) which you can fix yourself. I did replace the stock strings, though, I like heavier gauge stainless.
If I get one I'd want to put a P neck on it. Do these have Fender spec neck pockets? Is there routing under the guard?
I know how to setup basses, trust me!☺ i check the relief and i did proper setup...but for me the action is too high...i have a Fender jazz active 5 mexico with 4/64" at 12th fret on the g string without press the first fret with this Miller is impossible. ..too much buzz... I asked strings gauge to see if maybe they are thinner strings than I use ... I use 45-130
Perhaps we should move this conversation to the general discussion thread, where you might get more opinions. TWO new Marcus Miller budget signature model basses! | TalkBass.com Thanks!
