Shouldn't be any difference in tone, they are the same preamp. Some of the K-Haz preamps (usually the one's in the '90's Korean Ibanez and Tobias basses) had a blend knob instead of 2 volume knobs, but that's it. The difference in tone usually come from the chip in the preamp. Sheldon can probably fill you in on that a little more...

This pretty much sums it up. Besides the TL072 (KHAZ, Czech HAZ, MM114) vs LF442 (US HAZ) op amp, the only other significant difference that impacts tone is the value of the pots:

Dual vol KHAZ/Czech HAZ: Linear taper 500K dual volumes but with 12.5K resistors in parallel with the pot wipers to effectively convert them to 12K log taper. These were stock in the Kramer era NS2a basses.

Vol/Blend KHAZ (same config as Mighty Mite HAZ): 25K A/C taper blend with a 500K (linear I think; correct me if I'm wrong) volume pot. These were used on the Kramer era NS2o basses and in some Ibanez and Tobias basses as Dpaul noted. Some of the Ibanez and Tobias circuits were missing some components that give the KHAZ a little more 'character' than its Ibanez/Tobias counterparts.

Vol/Blend US HAZ. There are two variations of the 9V circuit that both used the LF442 op amp:

1) Brooklyn/Kramer era: 25K A/C blend, A25K volume

2) Woodstock era: 100K A/C blend. A100K volume

With passive pickups, the tonal variation among all of these will be more noticeable due to varying degrees of resonant peak dampening and low pass filter attenuation of high frequency signal content entering the first half of the op amp. There will also be a noticeable difference among the preamps when used with active pickups, mainly due to differences in the signal level entering the op amp: Lower pot values = lower input signal level with all pickups, greater attenuation of higher frequencies with passives)

KHAZ/Czech HAZ: 6K (2 x 12K parallel)

MM114: 12K (25K,25K, 500K parallel)

US 9V HAZ:

8K (Brooklyn/Kramer - 3 x 25K parallel), 33K (Woodstock - 3 x 100K parallel).

Wow! Thanks, this is a great help. I was just about to work on my Czech HAZ (in my SSD NS4CR) and wasn't sure if all electronics are original, because there has been some soldering done. I want to put in new tone pots, they're a bit cracky and the center-detent is almost gone. The tone pots are 100k.

I am just not sure if I can find the right pots that fit in the board here in Europe. Do you know what specific brand or size is used here?
