If you missed it earlier, I made a post stating that in my personal opinion and experience, Spectors don't have to be EMG-based in order to get that "Spector Sound", and further, I said that I think most people probably wouldn't be be able to pick out the EMG's consistently in a blind trial. Well, time to test that theory! Maybe I'm wrong!

Here is a Dropbox link that includes 8 sound samples. Some of the samples are played on EMG Spectors, some are played on non-EMG Spectors, and some are played on non-Spectors! All of these were played flat, with no pedals, no processing, and no cab/cab sim. These are as raw as they possibly can be! The results will not be visible until I share them later, as I want to avoid the power of persuasion.

Random comment, but I played my first Woodstock bass yesterday. It was a four string bolt-on. Big Spector fan, but I was underwhelmed even though the build quality and playability were great. I think the Czech models are more my speed.

This is a great bass at a fair price though. Just a chunky neck (which I usually like) and a not-so-Spector tone, at least to my ears. It is in as-new condition, so it will make somebody a great #1, just not me!

I'm not a huge fan of the newer non-curved body bolt ons. I absolutely love the older fully curved bolt ons.

Some of my favorite Spectors ever were Euros, especially the late 90s-early 00s. The Czech shop was turning out some amazing stuff in that era. (Still are as far as I can tell…I just prefer the solid maple wings myself). Excellent value for the money. :thumbsup:

The Czech SSD's punched so far above their price point at the time. Even more so now on the used market.

I have an NS4CRFM that I bought for $800 in 2017. That bass is as good as any four string I have ever played, and better than most. It is also the best bass for metal, in case you were wondering.

I think it's more than just the Euros for me. It's that era in general. I'm looking at what I have here: 1996 NS5CR, 1998 NS 2000/5, 1999 NS5CR, 1999 NS-JH5, 2003 Rebop 5, 2003 NS-JH5. All genuinely good instruments from the Koreans through the USAs, neck through and bolt-on. All solid maple wings/bodies except for the Rebop. And my most expensive one was a reasonable $1500.

I have a Czech Spector - it's awesome, and apparently the same factory made my NS NXT upright - which is also surprisingly awesome. I have one of the early ones with an ebony fingerboard and they planed it perfectly. So I definitely like the output from NBE.

Here is a video of the NBE Czech factory in Horovice, CZ. They are actually a lot more "hand made" then the US models. You can see at the 1:15 the are hand sanding the body shape. They still do it this way today. The woodstock shop is all CNC for that process. Spector EURO Series Factory in Czech Republic 2018 - YouTube
