The title says it. I bought a new Squier CV Mustang as a very different backup bass to my EBMM short scale Stingray. I really like the neck on the Mustang but the sound didn’t work for me so I decided to try an experiment. I purchased the Serek LZN B90 and had my guitar tech rout the body and a replacement pickguard. After the parts and work, I’ve got almost $900 into it. It has all confirmed that I really prefer the placement of the pickup on the Stingray. I could have my tech cut a new rout, make a new pickguard, and either move the pickup or add a second pup and some additional electronics for a couple hundred more… but decided to sell this experiment and pick up another SBMM Stingray (I have one that my tech defretted) and play around with modding it. I know I’d be starting with something that I like…. It seems like a safer route… probably should have gone that way originally for me. For you, this may be exactly what you’ve been looking for.
This Mustang sounds PHAT! The Serek pup has all of the girth you expect from a P90 designed for a bass and made hum free. It is huge in the bottom of a mix. Other than the mods, the bass is in near mint condition. It went to a couple of rehearsals and a couple of gigs and has gotten played in my smoke-free home. There are not dents or scratches that I can see. I did swap out the string tree for a three string one and added strap locks. I’ve never pulled the pickguard to look at the new cavity but my guy is also the guitar tech for lots of names you know. He does excellent work. I can include the original pickup if you want. It has a set of medium scale Stringjoy 45-105’s on it now.
I’ll contribute $25 to shipping. I’m willing to drive a bit from Santa Barbara in any direction to make a deal. The only trades I’d consider would be a Genzler BA series cab plus whatever appropriate amount of cash.
