I believe this to be a rare bird in the world of Steinbergers…an XP2A with active EMG pickups, Hazlab Version 1 preamp and a factory unlined graphite fretless neck. XP2 basses were made alongside the famous all-graphite XL2 series and were originally meant to be a slightly lower cost option with a maple body and bolt-on graphite neck. This maple body on this one is in pretty good shape with some visible areas of touch-up here and there on the black finish, mostly on the bottom corners (difficult to photograph). Pickguard is all original with no cracks and a fully intact logo.

The graphite neck is amazing, and the fingerboard is flawless and currently sports Labella Double Ball Tapewounds. Manufactured in Newburgh, New York…serial number dates to 1986. Weight comes in at exactly 8 lbs on my bathroom scale. Plays and sounds like a Steinberger should…no disappointments here.

The EMG pickups are true actives with the EMG logo being centered on the right edge but barely visible due to fading of the logos. The Hazlab preamp is volume, pan with center detent, and bass boost/treble boost with center detent (clockwise from detent is treble boost, counterclockwise from detent is bass boost, detent itself is flat). This is the same electronics package used in the XL2A all-graphite series of basses.

Brand new Ritter gig bag included as well as the original Steinberger gig bag that has undergone some sewing repairs, but is fully intact and functional. D’Addario cloth strap and rubber washer strap locks.

Difficult to price due to its rarity, but let’s say $1700 (PayPal Friends & Family Only) shipped to CONUS only. Offers considered…don’t be bashful! Trades/part trades considered for Fender fretless basses or a Mesa 2 Ohm capable head.

I wish I could, but I’m not really set up for that. FWIW, it’s a very clean and lovely sounding fretless. It would be a monster with rounds on it!
