I only bought a couple of them Jaco of course and Abraham Laboriel. There was a video rental place that had them for a while until they got busted and I watched a bunch of them. They were in a notebook like the porn videos and were sorta secret.

Verdine is always cool to watch!
I bought second hand the star licks Louis Johnson vhs and Abe Laboriel’s method at the end of the nineties...God only knows where they’re now :-(

These looked similar, but they used different finishes if not body woods (IIRC, purpleheart with the V. White model.)

This is a case of a Sarzo bass vanity branded by Peavey for Verdine White, probably for the video and for touring while developing a signature model.

The basses used identical woods but the stains between batches faded over time into very different shades. All of the basses had maple / purple heart / maple multiple layer necks & ebony finger boards. The Translucent Red seems to have been very unstable in some cases fading towards brown to purple or even pink in some cases. Luckily mine stayed Red.

> Trills, Shakes, doublestops (10ths), hard staccato attack, Funking out in a Rock vibe.

"That's The Way Of The World" & "Can't Hide Love"
> Chromatic approaches (from above & below) to the next chord.

"Yearnin' Learnin'"
> More staccato Funk, agressive attack

"After The Love Is Gone"
> How to nail a Ballad.

BTW, EWF's earliest Albums should never be overlooked. There may be a bit of a Sly influence...
