Hello all. I have an upright bass for sale that has been used by me for the last 4 years to play in a local bluegrass band. It is 3/4 scale, Gamba body, plywood construction. It was purchased from and maintained by Mike Shank of Shank's Strings in Elizabethtown, PA. He says it is a Strunal from the Czech Republic, although it was sold under the "Karl Reiser" name, which is what is on the nameplate inside the bass. It was made sometime in the mid '90s.
It has D'addario Zyex synthetic gut core/steel flatwound exterior strings on it, great for bluegrass or rockabilly. The strings are less than a year old. The bass also has an adjustable bridge. It comes with an endpin ball, and also one extra. Cosmetically it is very good, the only blemishes being some very light scrapes in the lacquer on the player side of the instrument from my belt, and then one or two dings caused by doorways or walls on the opposite side (see pictures). These in no way affect sound quality, which is pretty good for a bass of this price range- sustain is quite good, and volume is excellent.
For another $150 I'll throw in a Gollihur Music Professional Series II case. The case has pockets and handles galore, plus specialized padding in the bridge area and around the bottom of the case. And wheels! The case does show signs of wear (and repair, in the case of the main zipper), but the important parts still work.
I can deliver the bass for free within 100 miles of Camp Hill, PA (17011) according to Google Maps- NYC is a little more than 100, but I can do that for free. For an extra $50 (tank of gas and lunch), I can deliver it within 400 miles. Thanks very much.
