I'll admit that I have a major GAS problem at the moment.

Just picked this up and really enjoy it, which is why this is only a feeler right now. What I'm hoping to find is a bass that just feels like home to me.

This is a 2008 EBMM Stingray 5 with the HS configuration and alnico magnet pickups (it's worth mentioning that my iPhone autocorrect wanted me to tell everyone that it has albino pickups. I assure you that they are in fact alnico magnets). It's a really nice sounding, versatile bass. The neck feels a little thinner front to back then I remember from previous Music Man 5 strings. Condition is somewhere between excellent and "I can't find anything wrong with it".

The bass is a beautiful cherry burst with a maple fretboard. Maybe the best feature of this stingray is the weight - on the lighter side of the Music Man spectrum at 9 lbs, 4.7 oz. I have the original Music Man case.

The only thing I don't love about it, which is apparently a somewhat common observation about these basses, is that the two single coil positions (2 and 5) are a little quieter than the multi coil positions on the 5 position switch. It's easy enough to compensate with the volume knob, but it's a bit of a pain unless you are a set it and forget it type of player.

I would be interested in finding a higher end bass (4 or 5 string) and could include my Roadworn P bass, which is listed separately in another ad. The closest I've come to owning a boutique bass is a Valenti, which was an awesome bass but not what I would have specced out. I'm willing to listen to offers - going into this wth an open mind. So Fender Style or not Fender style are options.

Do you really want to "trade-up" such a great bass just so that you can get a nicer piece of "furniture".... admittedly I'm not much on the sound of maple necks, but the pick-ups, balance and workmanship on the MM basses are great... you can always change out the strings. Really, other than the "look how much I spent" factor I don't know how much better it can really get ! Good luck with this.

You aren't wrong - thats why this is just a feeler as opposed to an "I would really like to move this" thread. If the spirit moves me I'll deal but if I end up keeping it I will be beyond ok with that.

My curiosity is from the perspective of seeing how much nicer a really "nice" bass is outside of a store environment. Some of the really high end instruments I've played in stores just had a little extra something to them. There are no deficiencies to the Stingray that's for sure!

Bumperoonie. In addition to a 2 for 1 for something nice and/or old, I would also be open to finding a Big Al SSS or Reflex HSS. Maybe even a Classic in Retro-Burst.

Not sure if I can sustain two seperate threads with jokes for too long, but I did find a groaner for today...

A group of chess enthusiasts checked into a hotel and were standing in the lobby discussing their recent tournament victories. After about an hour, the manager came out of the office and asked them to disperse. ''But why?'' they asked, as they moved off. ''because,'' he said ''I can't stand chess nuts boasting in an open foyer.''

Found a quickie for today...

What's the best thing about Switzerland? I don't know, but their flag is a huge plus.

Have had some really neat trade offers, but haven't been able to pull the trigger on any yet. So I'm going to open this up for a sale as well. Feel free to PM with offers, including trade deals. Totally ok to hold onto this if the right deal doesn't come along, so I apologize in advance for being picky.

Today's joke...

One night, a police officer was stalking out a particularly rowdy bar for possible violations of the driving under the influence laws. At closing time, he saw a fellow stumble out of the bar, trip on the curb, and try his keys on five different cars before he found his. Then, sat in the front seat fumbling around with his keys for several minutes. Everyone left the bar and drove off. Finally, he started his engine and began to pull away.

The police officer was waiting for him. He stopped the driver, read him his rights and administered the Breathalyzer test. The results showed a reading of 0.0. The puzzled officer demanded to know how that could be. The driver replied, "Tonight, I'm the Designated Decoy."

Sold the Roadworn yesterday locally, so I'm now open to trading the Stingray plus cash for something nice. All other trades (across or down) will be equally consdiered.

A guy has a talking dog. He brings it to a talent scout. "This dog can speak English," he claims to the unimpressed agent. "Okay, Sport," the guys says to the dog, "what’s on the top of a house?" "Roof!" the dog replies. "Oh, come on..." the talent agent responds. "All dogs go ‘roof’." "No, wait," the guy says. He asks the dog "what does sandpaper feel like?" "Rough!" the dog answers. The talent agent gives a condescending blank stare. He is losing his patience. "No, hang on," the guy says. "This one will amaze you. " He turns and asks the dog: "Who, in your opinion, was the greatest baseball player of all time?" "Ruth!" goes the dog. And the talent scout, having seen enough, boots them out of his office onto the street. And the dog turns to the guy and says "Maybe I shoulda said DiMaggio?"

All PM's replied. There have been some *very* enticing trade offers, and a possible sale is under discussion. However, I have an opportunity to pick up a bass locally that I am super excited about, and need to move this Stingray to make it happen. That said, I will happily continue to entertain trades.

So in the hope I can move this soon, I offer my latest joke.

A man is flying in a hot-air balloon and realizes he is lost. He reduces height and spots a man below. He lowers the balloon farther and shouts, "Excuse me! Can you tell me where I am?"

The man below says: "Yes, you're in a hot-air balloon, hovering 30 feet above this field."

"You must be an engineer," says the balloonist.

"I am," replies the man. "How did you know?"

"Well," says the balloonist, "everything you have told me is technically correct, but it's no use to anyone."

The man below says, "You must be in management."

"I am," replies the balloonist, "but how did you know?"

"Well," says the man, "you don't know where you are or where you're going, but you expect me to be able to help. You're in the same position you were before we met, but now it's my fault."

Unfortunately the sale I was working on didn't pan out, so I'll give this a Friday afternoon bump. Still open to trades (+/- cash as needed).

For today's joke, it's an oldie but a goodie inspired by my father in law, who dusted it off in honor of the beginning of hockey season.

A man wakes up early one morning to go ice fishing. He dresses warmly, and heads out onto the ice with his tent, his ice auger, his fishing rods, and his sittin’ bucket, and begins to auger a hole in the ice. After just a few seconds of drilling with the auger a big booming voice from above intones: “THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE HERE!” The man looks around and, not being a very religious man, resumes drilling his hole in the ice. Again, he hears the thunderous voice: “THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE HERE!” Becoming a little spooked, the man packs up his gear and moves 30 feet from where he was and begins making a new hole in the ice. “THERE ARE NO FISH UNDER THE ICE HERE EITHER!” the voice thunders again.

The man looks up, “God, is that you?”

The voice responds “NO, IT’S THE MANAGER OF THE ICE RINK!!”

I would say that I've pretty much decided to hold onto this, but I said that about my Roadworn and literally sold it the next day. So I'll just say that after today I'll probably let this thread slip, and the chips will fall where they may.

Here's a quick hitter for today's joke:

Accidentally broke my Irish friend’s Pixar movie. He wasn’t amused, but he did say “You cracked me Up.”

10/13/15 Edit: True to form, I was ready to let this thread sink and got a bite. This one is on hold pending a local deal tomorrow.

10/13/15 Edit 2: local sale fell through, so this Stingray is still available.

What the hey - played the Stingray for a while last night and it is definitely a nice bass. But the GAS for something new and different is still strong. Still looking for sale or trade (+/- cash as needed)

Today's joke...

An MIT linguistics professor was lecturing his class the other day. “In English,” he said, “a double negative forms a positive. However, in some languages, such as Russian, a double negative remains a negative. But there isn’t a single language, not one, in which a double positive can express a negative.”

A voice from the back of the room piped up, “Yeah, right.”

Stumbled on a cool project bass, so my bass fund is a little smaller, but I can still add cash to the right deal. There have been some downright tantalizing offers, and I've gotten *really* close to pulling the trigger more than once, but alas, the Stingray is still here.

I'm dog guy, but there's something about this cat joke that made me smile...

A man absolutely hated his wife's cat and decided to get rid of him one day by driving him 20 blocks from his home and leaving him at the park. As he was getting home, the cat was walking up the driveway. The next day he decided to drive the cat 40 blocks away. He put the beast out and headed home. Driving back up his driveway, there was the cat! He kept taking the cat further and further and the cat would always beat him home. At last he decided to drive a few miles away, turn right, then left, past the bridge, then right again and another right until he reached what he thought was a safe distance from his home and left the cat there. Hours later the man calls home to his wife, "Jen, is the cat there?" "Yes", the wife answers, "why do you ask?" Frustrated, the man answered, "Put that son of a gun on the phone, I'm lost and need directions!"

OK, so I've gone completely project happy and have a couple basses at home now that are going to require some quality time to be nursed back to health. Apart from being my newest favorite hobby, it has completely drained my gear fund.

So I'll give this one last bump for straight trades or potentially a sale. I've been spending some more time with it recently and think I finally have a handle on the sound - it really is different from the ceramic electronics in the pre-2008 Stingray 5's in a good way. Just a different (great) flavor of the Musicman sound.

Here's a couple of one liners today, stolen from here.

1) A farmer in the field with his cows counted 196 of them, but when he rounded them up he had 200.

2) Did you hear about the new corduroy pillows? They’re making headlines everywhere!

Back from the dead with a price drop and a fresh joke...

A German walks into a bar and asks for a martini. The bartender asks, “Dry?”

The German replies, “Nein, just one.”
