Picture yourself playing this powerful 2009 Pöllmann “Imperator" 5-String Double Bass from the shop of the Master German double bass luthier E. M. Pöllmann in Mittenwald, Bavaria Germany. Beautiful traditional Busetto corner design with precise details, robust 5er craftmanship, and curves in all the right places carried from the historic Marneukirchen/Saxony and Mittenwald/Bavaria schools. The woods and finish selected for this instrument are something to see. A spectacular One-Piece Poplar back and ribs produce a splendid, thoroughly rich double bass sonority seldom heard. The top is flawless old straight grained Spruce from the famous Bavarian forests of Southern Germany. Comfortable and perfectly playable nut, neck, fingerboard and bridge setup makes this 5er a breeze to play. Honey amber finish of that secret formula from the Markneukirchen/Mittenwald masters with a furniture grade shine. Sloping upper bout and wide fingerboard enhance your TP playing!
Everyone who plays this Master Quality instrument comments on how how RESPONSIVE it is - how rich, dark, and LOUD it can be in fff while retaining a sophisticated full and CLEAR ppp. Plays well with others, BUT when needed or wanted, the low B shakes the floors and people take notice the big Pöllmann is in the house. No mad switching of extensions, or that odd mechanical look butchering the scroll here! This Pöllmann Imperator projects a totally impressive visual and sound presence on stage.
Primarily an Orchestra section instrument of high merit, I’ve found it to be versatile and superb for jazz and dance gigs - just as the great jazz artist Charlie Haden did with his 5-string Lion-headed Pöllmann.
The dimensions:
Overall Length: 77 3/4“ Upper Bout: 21 5/8“
Body Length: 47 1/4“ Middle Bout: 15 5/8“
String Length: 42" Lower Bout: 29 1/2"
Rib Depth: 9"
Slimming down my basses to one. PM me.
