Gibson Grabber G3 Tribute bassVery good condition – played, but no dings through finish – looks and feels great. This is the 2012 reissue of the venerable G3 bass. Only 400 were made in-all. What distinguishes the G3 from the Ripper and Grabber basses is its single coil, rather than humbucking pickups. It sounds great and plays like a dream. The frets and neck have no significant wear. The bass is in great shape, with the principle wear being some pickguard marking from being played with a pick.
The combination of the single coils, the maple body and set neck gives you plenty of punch. I had one of the original G3's back in the day. I'd say the Tribute cops the Bill Lawrence single coil sound, but gives you a bit more flexibility by spacing the pickups a little wider, bringing the neck pickup closer to the board. It can do anything between nasty punk, to a pretty decent Rick sound plus some really crisp Jazz bass tones. The pickup switching is set up for real quiet: the middle pickup is always in the on position and is wound reverse from the other two. So no hum in the neck, bridge or both pickups on settings.
The only reason I have to let the bass go is a wrist injury has forced me to move entirely to short scales. It’s just not getting played. I got a good deal when I bought it, and I’m looking for a fair, but easy sale. I'm pretty firm at $550 shipped to the CONUS ($500 for a local sale - I'm in Milwaukee and would meet up anywhere in SW Wisconsin or Chicagoland). PM me any questions. Thanks
