These don't show up often. The Pro Tone series only lasted a year or so because, as the story goes, the build quality surpassed the MIM series of the day. I have to agree. This bass is solid ash! You get a high mass bridge, lightweight tuners, and matching headstock.
The original pickups were decent and I was planning on keeping this because I really wanted a solid P/J. I upgraded the pots and pickups with the fantastic EMG Geezer Butler set. A huge improvement. The only weak link in the bass was the electronics and now that weak link is gone.
Nope. I did not keep the original pickups and pots. Sorry.
The finish is blemish free. I know the original owner (I am the second owner). This bass spent most all of its life in the era correct Fender chainsaw hard case.
There is some tarnish on the frets, but no wear to speak of.
Truss rod moves freely and the neck and fretwork are great (jazz bass nut width).
$375 gets you a better than MIM quality P/J (and a heckuva lot more unique).
Honestly, if I didn't get my hands on the AmDlx this bass wouldn't be going anywhere.
