I'm the second owner of this Jim Carrigan designed and built fretless fiver. Body and neck are wenge with an ebony fingerboard. The original build thread is here:

There's lot of details in the original thread, but the summary is:

34" scale, spacing measures out about 18mm
Nordstrand MM5.4 Quad Coil Pickups
Delano Sonar 3 Preamp
Knob configuration for volume, blend, hi, mid, low
Switch configuration for setting pickups to parallel, single, or series (see original post)

This is a large bass and weighs 11 pounds or more. It positions well though and is very comfortable to play. If you like small or very light basses, this is not the bass for you.

There's some interesting details in its construction besides the scroll including a very Arts and Crafts reminiscent headstock. Hopefully the details come through in the pics. The neck is a 4 piece wenge laminate for stability with a truss rod.

I have the action setup very low and if you're a light touch player, you can get some serious fingering speed going.

good luck with the sale. i am also a proud owner of a KILLER Carrigan that i totally love. these really are GREAT basses. i'd gladly take that off your hands but i don't like 5 strings and i really don't like the narrower spacing. my 32 scale fretless 4 has a super chunky neck with a nice wide string spacing and i couldnt be happier with it.

Here's an MP3 of some tones from the bass. In order:
  1. Sustain on open E
  2. Sustain on root and 11th harmony
  3. Sustain on root and octave
  4. Very short noodle: Both pickups in "single" coil mode
  5. Very short noodle: Neck pickup in single, Bridge in series
  6. Very short noodle: Neck pickup in series, Bridge in single
  7. Very short noodle: Neck pickup in single, Bridge in parallel
  8. Very short noodle: Neck pickup in parallel, Bridge in single
  9. Very short noodle: Both pickups in series
  10. Very short noodle: Both pickups in parallel
  11. Very short noodle: Both pickups in single once again
I know there are more permutations, but thought that was enough. Please ask any questions you may have.

Recorded by plugging the bass directly into an older Alesis Firewire board connected into a Mac and recorded in Logic. All settings flat, zero editing of any kind. Just recorded and bounced straight to MP3 at 320Kbps.

I just got a Carrington five string recently, it is an amazing bass! Whoever get this will surely not be disappointed.

Are the side dots set up with the usual arrangement for unlined fretless? At the note's fretting position, 3-5-7-9-12 etc.?

Interesting you should ask and I should probably take some pics of the side dots. Yes, there are side dots and they are at the fingering positions correct for fretless... however there are dots at every position. Yes, every position... Fortunately the dots at 3, 5, 7, 9, and 12 are bright white and stand out. My only guess on the sides dots being at every position is that maybe the person who had this bass built was new to fretless.

I have this setup on my fretless and really like it. I think it is a great compromise between only having major position markers (3,5,7,9,12,15,etc...) and having a lined fretboard.
