I'm selling my custom Carl S bass. I hate to do this but I need to at this moment. I will get another one made when I'm in another place financially.

This bass was made by a local builder in the New Orleans area. He does great work. I know I'll never recoup what I paid because he isn't one of your big name builders but his work is on par with them. He builds a few basses a year and does alot of other tech work also. His website is carl S. Custom Basses - Home Guitar Center actually has 2 of his basses for sale. One is listed at $1,499. They dropped the price but it still hasn't moved. I actually played that bass. The original owner paid over $3,000 for that bass. This reason it hasn't sold is because the strings are 100 yrs old and it needs a setup. The builder actually offered to do that so he would make a good impression on potential buyers but GC declined. Another one is listed for $1,999. That bass costed way over $3,000 new. Both basses are listed on the builders websit.

My bass was $2,300 new but I know that'll be hard to recoup. I'm listing my bass for $1,700 including shipping to CONUS. I really need the cash so no trades unless it's a 5 string jazz bass with money added. In order to help potential buyers and ease their worries, I'm offering a return policy. If after 5 days of receiving the bass and you aren't satisfied, you can return the bass to me and I will refund you all of your money minus shipping costs. Please do not take advantage of this. I trust you won't.

The action on this bass was the lowest I've ever played. I had to raise it some when I bought it because I wan't used to that low of action. I can let the builder install new strings and set it up right before I ship.

I am attaching videos of my bass in action. The vidoes are when it had Aguilar DCB pickups. I have since changed the pickups to Nordstrand Big Splits. Bass specs:
  • Spalted Maple top
  • Laminated neck made of maple, walnut, and purple heart
  • Ebony fretboard
  • 19 mm string spacing
  • 34" scale
  • Hipshot hardware
  • Nordstrand Big splits pickups
  • Aguilar OB-3 preamp (18 volts)
  • about ~ 10 lbs
I have a set of ebony knobs and custom spalted maple knobs to include in the purchase.

Here is a video of a different Carl S bass. My bass sounds just like this live. This bass have Bartolini pickups.
