up for sale is a unique 3-tone sunburst with horizontal maple flame front, dark tortoise shell edge binding, and a really nice unlined ebony fingerboard. Strung with LaBella black nylon tapewounds. Includes a new Gator Transit gig bag.

This bass is a true closet queen, while it has a build date of 1998, it is in mint condition and looks and feels like a brand-new bass. There's one tiny nick on the very top of the headstock, but otherwise in pristine condition. Balances well and at just over 6 lbs, is a joy to play, but I prefer my upright to a fretless bass guitar so its not getting any playing time.

Here's some information and specs from Carvin, when they still existed and were selling this bass:

"The AC40 is designed to produce acoustic bass tones when played through an amplifier - it is not a "true acoustic" like a jumbo-bodied acoustic bass. The AC40 acoustic/electric bass is built to the highest possible standards with features found only on high-end and boutique basses, without the boutique price. The AC40 is more than just an instrument - it's a work of art that you'll be proud to play and own for a lifetime. The AC40 produces the best amplified acoustic tone possible!

Features a hand-selected mahogany for the body and neck. All of our neck and fingerboard woods undergo a long conditioning process in our de-humidification chambers to remove any stress in the wood and prevent future warping or twisting. The body is carved out for maximum resonance while maintaining stability, and the neck runs the length of the body for increased sustain and strength. The mahogany construction produces warm tones, perfect for a semi-hollow instrument. The AC40 is light and comfortable to play - it weighs only 6.25 pounds, which is several pounds lighter than a conventional solid-body bass. The body is similar in size to a solid-body bass, at 13.4" wide at the widest point, and is 1.8" thick.

The mahogany neck-through-body adds to the warmth the overall tone of the instrument. Each Carvin neck goes through an exclusive several week long conditioning process which maximizes the stability of the neck forever. Two high-strength carbon-fiber reinforcing rods are placed in all bass necks along with a very stout and reliable easy to adjust dual action truss rod.

The AC40 has an LR Baggs ribbon-acoustic pickup. This pickup is less than 1/32" thick and contains a film sensor laminated between layers of Kapton and then laser-trimmed to its final form. It's reliable and innovative, with a sensor that is responsive to vibration but not to pressure on the pickup itself. This minimizes the sterile sound that is characteristic of most pressure-sensitive under-saddle pickups, because as the guitar top moves with the vibrations of the strings, so does the pickup, naturally reflecting the actual sound and dynamics of the AC40."

My asking price is $625 including the new Gator gig bag. Shipping to be split between buyer and seller. I have access to low shipping rates and do my own packing, so depending on where you live your share or shipping costs will be between $30-40.

I might be interested in a trade for a 4-string bass, I'm partial to P basses but open to suggestions. PM me if you have questions or want more photos.

EDIT for trade interests - I've had several trade offers, but wanted to clarify what I might consider. I'm partial to passive 4 string basses, my main player is a P but might consider something slightly different. I don't have much bass cash at this point, so any trade would have to be for something somewhat similar in value, +/- a few hundred dollars.
