For sale Rick Turner Renaissance 5 lined fretless

My wife and I were just talking about the craftsmanship of Rick Turner instruments over dinner (we saw a local musician with one of his Renaissance guitars).

I don't play 5'ers and I don't play fretless, but man, maybe I need to start!

I am pretty ignorant when it comes to these.....what are the two other jacks near the input?

Those are trim pots, gain and bass can be adjusted with those two controls, in addition to having the volume and a tone roll off at the top of the bass.

This makes for a lot of fine tuning for an instrument like this.

the bass feels and plays incredible! It's all around a fantastic upright-ish alternative. And I kid you not, it is soooooo close to the Rob Allen sound with those strings.

Personally, it's a complete beauty too, I actually prefer it to the spruce look most have.

What's the scale length?

spacing is like 18 or 19, not real sure as it's kinda wide and the only reason I feel the difference is when I'm slapping, I prefer 19 then. But I don't slap on this. 35" scale.

Nice bass - what's the volume like unplugged?

I noticed you recently sold your Godin A5 and now your Rick Turner! Which would be a better acoustically?

I've been looking for a Godin A5 in the hopes of playing acoustically and amp'd, however, I haven't had a chance to try one. I have tried the Rick Turner at Bass San Diego but had nothing to compare it to except the Carvin AC-50.

I'd seriously consider the Rick Turner if...!

The Godin actually was a very nice instrument for this kind of thing, a VERY nice instrument. I don't think it was as well built as a Rob Allen or a Rick Turner, but besides that it was completely within the ballpark. I just could not deal with the spacing on the Godin 5, period. Even though I was not going to slap on it, I just could not do it.

I got a great deal on a Rob Allen that I really dug, and I got a chance to play these two side by side and really tonewise and playability wise, they are so close. What can I say, I've regretted every Rob Allen I've sold and hopefully I'll learn this time.

Truth is, I probably won't learn......

Unplugged, out of all of them the Carvin may be the best as none of these basses will do anything for you unplugged. But the Carvin sounds like an electric plugged in, and I don't think its in the ballpark at all.

Of all of the instruments I had to liquidate after my divorce, my Ren 5 fretless is the one I miss most. Man, what a fine sounding instrument. Never tried it with tapewounds, as I was not going for a thumpy upright sound. With the Thomastik Spirocores, these basses have the sweetest, most singing fretless tone I have ever heard.

Especially nice neck/headstock scarf joint on this one.

Having both sets of strings makes it like having two different basses. But in fairness, that is half due to the fact that those strings are near as awesome as the bass and worlds apart.
