Hey gang, I've got an SVP-PRO preamp, fresh from 1997!!!! Well, not perfectly fresh as you'll read, but anyway....I'll try and keep this short and sweet.
I bought this for my "rig" in 1997. Even though you don't need a "rig" in high school, you spend every last nickel to buy one anyway to be cool. When I realized this as a broke college student later, I sold it in 2000 to my good friend Aaron Beharelle (if that name looks familiar, it should: he started and still owns ctbasses.com).
The "rig" sat, and sat, and sat. At some point it was kidnapped at some point by a mutual friend of ours when he found out where it was stored. It then sat in our friend's basement, mostly as a practice rig (since the "rig" weighed over 200lbs and our friend weighs 100lbs).
One night in 2006 or so, I asked to borrow it for a gig. Someone, at some point during its prison sentence, stepped on a cord while it was plugged in and gave the input jack a good tweak, which provided a lovely intermittent cut-out while playing. Out of sheer frustration and panic (with the gig only hours away), I took the whole thing apart, de-soldered the virgin "Tuner Out" jack and re-soldered it in place of the "Input" jack. After that, it worked perfectly and the gig went on without a hitch. (I also almost punched our friend in the face when I returned everything, hahaha.)
I already know what you're thinking: "Oh Jesus, amateur soldering." Well, I am not a professional, but I'm pretty good. If you're into cars, I built an entire MegaSquirt from scratch (you get a PCB and a bag of components). You can't see any joints here (or the majority of the joints inside the case), but maybe you'll get the idea from this:
CLIFF NOTES: This is a first gen model...the later ones had a gray face. I'm sure it's seen less than 20 gigs in its lifetime, and has been inside a sturdy SKB 4-mount case the whole way. During the time which I did not own it, one of the tubes was replaced (see pictures) with a proper replacement. I don't know how the little "ding" got put into the top lid, but you'll never see that anyway.
Why am I getting rid of it? It has great vintage tones / overdrive and what have you, but it's just not the sound I'm looking for.
WITH THE EXCEPTION OF THE MISSING TUNER JACK, THIS THING IS 100%. I went through it all today: all the EQ faders work, all the little click-buttons work, all the EQ and volume knobs work correctly, the send/return I/O and footswitch work, and the D.I. / level works. This is guaranteed to work when it arrives unless it really gets trashed during shipping (and no worries there: it will be insured for the proper amount).
I DETEST SCAMMERS, and I know what it's like to be dicked around on the internet. I have 80+ transactions with 100% eBay rating as "anthonyfury" as a buyer and seller. I'm not here to play games. Please be assured that this is a no-BS deal. If you are not happy with your purchase within 7 days of receiving it, I will buy it back from you, simple as that. I'd make it longer than 7, but 7 is plenty of time to test it out (and also plenty of time for a dishonest person to trash it). Agree?
The price is $325, as-is (yes, it comes with a power cord), shipped, insured and with signed delivery confirmation, to anywhere in the lower 48 states. I would really prefer a check or M.O., but if it comes down to it, we can do paypal.
Also, I will source the missing tuner jack, solder it in, and ship it on the conditions above for $350, if you have no way of doing this yourself and want to make sure your bar's patrons aren't frightened or alarmed by a quick harmonics blip.
