It probably feels lonely with none of us watching saying much... but I look in on this bass once in awhile... wishing.

Alder body? Or ash maybe? Are the pickups single coil or hum cancelling?

Yeah, it's pretty quiet here!

I think the body is ash, and the pickups are hum-cancelling.

Bump for a gorgeous bass. Do you happen to have the s/n? Interested buyers can call the shop to get the body wood spec, and perhaps more info on the electronics. Those definitely look like Barts, but I'd be curious as to which ones...single coils or one of the myriad models of HC's. Might also be worthwhile to describe the control layout - namely Vol/Vol or Vol/Blend on the first two knobs.

An alder fretless M5V has been on my radar for quite some time, and this one is beautimous.

Right on...

If this is alder, I could be in trouble.

Once we know the body wood, my only saving graces would be the electronics. If this bad boy had Duncans and a Vol/Blend layout, I'd be in big trouble...with my whore-like appreciation for matching headstocks (LPB against ebony? Slurp!) the only possible out.

Crap. Can you tell I'm interested? Someone buy this, please!

If you want to hear a great sounding fretless cut with a Lull 5, listen to Brian Beller on the new Aristocrats recording with Guthrie Govan on guitar (and an excellent drummer as well).

If I remember correctly it is the first tune, Flatlands. A really nice fat and chunky fretless tone. You don't see many of these Lull fretless basses. I have ever seen only two or three for sale, but the sound is top notch.

It's funny what you can learn about a bass you own but rarely play if you actually take the time to look at it!

First of all, the serial number is 549. The pickups are definitely Bartolini's, and the fingerboard is NOT ebony! It appears to be Pao Ferro. I can't tell whether the body is alder or swamp-ash, but my guess at this point would be alder.

I'll correct my listing!

That's the darkest, blackest, most even-grain-looking Pau Ferro I've ever seen. I'd put money down that it is ebony. I've owned both and this is almost certainly NOT Pau Ferro, which is more reddish/brown in color with quite a lot of variation in the grain.

Agreed. Not to say he wouldn't do something for a paying customer, but I believe Mike only uses ebony for fretless fingerboards.

I could be off on this one, but I'll ask anyway...are you sure on the serial number? I thought Mike's headstock change came in the 700-800 s/n range, and yours sure looks to my eyes to be the current design.

Sorry to be a pest...all in the spirit of helping you sell this beast. And hopefully to someone else, before temptation gets the best of me.

The board looks darker in the pictures -- it's more red-hued in person. But I'll call Mike to get this straight. I'm usually pretty well-informed about my gear, but apparently not so much with this bass.

I'm not the least upset by your questions -- only a little embarrassed! The serial number is one of the few things I'm sure of (but I checked it again to be sure): 549.

I spent some time looking at various fingerboards on the web. This board isn't as black as my Ken Smith or Sadowsky ebony boards, but the grain, lack of variegation, etc makes me think it probably is ebony after all. (And several of the Sadowsky ebony boards had reddish hues in the wood, for that matter ...)

Clearly this bass needs a new owner!
