After many years of avoiding it, I have finally succumbed to Rickenbacker lust. It's time to sell my much loved 1967 Guild Starfire as see and heard n in this video:

All original except for tuners. I just never got around to tracking down originals and these work well. Mahogoney bridge saddles and comes with extras. Big humbucker sound, but this would be an excellent candidate for a Dark Star if that's your bag. Always strung with Labella flats, sounds killer, easy to play. Comes with hardshell case.

This wasn't up for sale at Empire Guitars in Providence, was it? I had a serious jones for that bass.

During the 60's Starfires came equipped with single coil Bisonic Pickups. I am not an expert but the pickup in your bass looks more like a '70s Guild Humbucker and sure ain't a 60's Bisonic pickup (which looks very similar to a Dark Star)...
A great bass anyway!

Agreed, if that's indeed a '67, which it looks to be despite the tuners and the pickup, then that pickup is not original.

There was zero attempt to "trick" anybody into thinking that the pickup was a bisonic. Anybody who knows anything about Guilds of this period would see exactly what kind of pickup is in in it and I did mention that it's a Guild humbucker. But thanks so much for jumping and trying to make me look shady. I truly appreciate that as a human and a longtime member of this forum. I have some Latin phrase in mind for you as well.

Right now, there's a '67 Starfire with the bisonic on ebay going for over $1900. My bass is priced appropriately, I feel.

Corin: it wasn't my intention at all to make you look shady.
I would never do that to a fellow TB'er and I never thought you were trying to trick anyone. I believe anyone looking for a Starfire would know a little about the pickups (they look so different after all) so it would be childish to think you were trying to fool someone.

Just thought it was appropriate to add some info on the pickup.

The Guild humbuckers are very good pickups as well, just have a very different flavor to them.
As a matter of fact I own a 70's Guild M-85 and I PREFERRED to leave those pickups instead of replacing them with Dark Stars.
The Guild pickups have a really big, nice and thunderous very warm vintage tone, with the right amount of "mud" (for someone wishing to go in that direction), not as terribly muddy as a Gibson original mudbucker.
With that being said, I'll say you have a very nice bass here and I wish you the best of luck with the sale. The guy who buys this bass will be a happy fortunate bass player!

Have to agree. I tried out a similarly equipped 60's Starfire recently, with the same type of pickup. My first thought when I saw it was "stick a Darkstar in there". My first thought when I *played* it was "never mind". Surprisingly awesome (well, I was surprised anyway :)).

I think the comment did help. It should be helpful for both sellers and potential buyers to have an accurate description.

To me it is obvious that the seller has not tried to fool anyone. It's a very good price. If it would have been an original Hagström bisonic, the price would be so much higher. And, as mentioned already, that Guild humbucker is a great pickup.

Good luck with the sale! Wish I had the money to buy it!
