While it pains me to do this, I'm putting up my beloved 1973 Fender Precision bass up for sale. Let me assure you that this isn't just a good one, its an AMAZING one. Light (in the 8-something lb neighborhood), very resonant, pickups that go from punchy bright with the tone cranked and full warm beautiful lows with it rolled back. The finish is wonderfully checked but doesn't have ANY belt rash. No arm wear, pick wear, etc. There is edge wear and dings etc. as you'd expect. In other words this one's got the mojo both for your eyes AND your ears. The neck is a tight fit in the neck pocket and has never been shimmed.

It currently has straplock pins, but the original strap buttons and screws are included in the well worn but serviceable original case. Bridge and pickup covers are lost to the mist of history.

A recent thread with some of these pictures and info/feedback from other TB'ers can be found here:

I've conferred with a few professionals & vintage gear experts who have confirmed and also had input on my pricing.

What we have here...73 Precision with all the classic and correct attributes. Neck stamp, SN, pot dates are all correct. There is 'resolder' on the pots as they were switched out to EMG's when I got it, but also received the original pickups on purchase. The neck is flat and problem free, the frets are in great shape with no need of any fretwork. Action is currently SCREAMING low and without buzz. TB'er and pro bass player Bigfatbass played it the other night and couldn't believe how low and fast it is

Continental US unless you're a very prominent buyer that I know or trust. I'll take check/money order or paypal. I'll not deal with TB'ers who are new. If you haven't been around and aren't known here, I probably will say no. :) Sorry this one is too good not to be careful.

Thanks! I appreciate it. I prefer good pictures of the important details for anything I want to buy and I don't want anyone to have any questions as to authenticity or condition. :) I spent a day taking it apart and doing pictures and getting it ready for the sale.

And it is a very nice bass.

Thanks for your comment.

What kind/gauge strings are on there now?

Right now it has a set of D'Addario rounds in their 'regular' gauge I believe 45-100 or 45-105. They're pretty fresh as I restrung it a while back during general upkeep but haven't played it regularly for a while.

Hey All,
Thanks for the comments and the multitude of PM's that have come my way since I posted. :)

Keep them coming!

I will be out of town for an extended family weekend, returning on the evening of the 12th. I'll have some web availability during that time, but replies may be slightly delayed due to this.

Thanks!

Man, if I wasn't just about to drop dough on a Dingwall, I would snag this. She's purdy...

Thanks! My Dingwalls are the main reason this doesn't get any play these days...Sheldon's done pretty well by me. :) It was noted during a comparison the other night that the Precision has a lower and faster action than even my Zebra/Voodoo!

Real beauty here...very nice.

Thanks! :)

holy moly.

You're up in 'Cuse? Got a kid in school up there. May have to pay him a surprise visit. :bassist:

Hey Chuck, I work for the University and live in the University area. If you are interested, let me know and I'd be happy to meet up.
