Well, a few of you may have seen this thread over the years. Literally.
I have reached a point where I don't have the time, money, or honestly the desire to finish this project. I got a call from the ex-wife last week asking if I could help out a bit, and now that I have done the morally-correct thing I am also shorter on cash flow than usual, and this bass keeps staring me in the face.
The good:
I hand-painted the top of this bass, using spray paint, acrylic paint, and a LOT of polyurethane, with MANY hours sunk into it. I think the top looks as good as any custom paint theme I've ever seen, and I'm typically the last one to blow my own horn.
It is a double-P bass, with the neck pup in the traditional location, and the bridge pup centered between the neck pup and bridge.
It has all the hardware, minus some springs and screws for the pups. It's a high-mass bridge, eBay pups, but the wiring is all legit - VVT setup with push/pull series/parallel switch. The output jack located on the side of the body now. It's well-shielded and quiet, when I had the test strings on it.
The bad:
I apparently haven't gotten the hang of solid-body painting, or knowing when I'm sanding too much, because I sanded through on the back, around the tummy cut, as seen in the pics.
I also didn't pay close enough attention and mis-mounted the neck inserts - I tried, but evidently did NOT get them straight enough, and now there is a bit of an issue getting the neck to bolt up tightly. It holds tight right now, but it will need to be looked at by someone qualified - not me - to fix.
Along with that, I painted the headstock to match, but when I made the logo it just didn't work out - artistically I think that's when I stopped wanting to work on this project. One thing after another. The good news is that if you're careful you can sand down TO the logo and remove it without damaging the headstock paint. There's a lot of polyurethane on both the headstock face and the top of the body. That being said, i also managed to sand through a little bit at the very tip-top of the headstock.
Also, I painted the blocks in the theme of the bass - camo with "rivets" - and it just didn't work out well. Probably should have left that alone, but it really doesn't bother me that much because the fret edges REALLY, REALLY need to be dressed. They're sharp. Oh, also, I bought a Tusq nut but haven't gotten around to installing/filing etc. It'll be included.
I say all this in full disclosure, because honestly I'm basically selling a loaded, custom-painted SX body. The neck is a disaster that I don't have time or patience to deal with, and probably should have just left alone.
Anyway, enough of that, on to the pics:

(Some of that is just fingerprints and smudges. It does need work, but the camera is making it look worse than it does IRL.)
Oh, and just in case anyone was wondering, the paint DOES go under the pickguard, I just didn't feel like taking it off for photos.
I want to make sure there is full understanding if anyone wants to bite on this - it's definitely a project bass. If I've missed anything, I'm sorry, and I'm not trying to mislead anyone.
Now, I'd like to get $250 shipped (in the US only) for the whole kit and kaboodle - I know that it's an SX, but I have put a whole heap of time into the paint - probably something like 40 hours. I realize that I may be asking a bit much, though, so I'm open to offers.
