The SVT-5 Pro has a well-deserved checkered reputation. Stories abound about the poor factory soldering jobs that caused so many problems. This unit was no exception. When I picked it up (used) it was in pretty bad shape from that perspective. I ordered it online, unheard, and was fairly disappointed. The seller, however, was a reputable music store owner who had been unaware of the issues and he agreed to pay for the amp to be serviced. I took it to an authorized Ampeg repair shop and had them fix the issues, which was primarily a bunch of resoldering work. The tube was also replaced at that time and has very little time on it.

The amp sounds great, The one issue I still have with it is that I can't seem to get it to bi-amp properly. It does bi-amp, but the channels seem to be backward from what the manual says. This could be user error on my part or there may actually be an issue with the amp. I'm not sure. So, beware if you are a bi-amper. Running it straight I haven't had any issues since the repair.

The only other thing I would say that is a slight negative about this amp is the fan is pretty loud. Not usually a problem in most circumstances, but just wanted to mention it. This isn't an "issue", but seems to be a "feature" of this amp model.

I'd also consider selling the SVT810E that you can see in the picture for any SoCal buyers that might be interested in picking it up. I'm thinking $850 for the cab and would sell the set for probably $1,400.

I'd be happy to answer any questions about it and I have more pictures if anyone wants to see more.

Anyone have a thought on the lack of interest in this fairly rare Ampeg? Is there just little interest in the 5 pro? Not enough pictures? Price too high? Too honest in disclosing the amp's history ;-)

I don't think it is necessarily "lack of interest." I just think the public isn't as experienced with it as opposed to the SVT 3 Pros and SVT 7 Pros dominating the used/new market..

Looks REALLY cool though. I am sure it sounds great though and it deserves to be played/looked at/ researched more!

GLTWS man!

I picked up one of these a few months back. I really like mine. Lots of cool, useable features. I think I payed the same as your asking price but mine is a bit more beat up than yours. I will say these things are extremely heavy...so maybe it's the shipping cost that's scaring people away? GLWTS man ;)

A positive selling point for this amp is that the sub-blaster pedal is based on the octave feature in this amp. If I didn't have too many amps I'd buy this amp for the octave effect.
