After hearing the new SVT-8Pro at Winter NAMM, I was very impressed, and definitely hankerin' to take one for a test drive. So when I saw a USA-made 8Pro for sale here on TalkBass (from a seller whom I admire and trust), I decided to snap it up!

The initial "seat-of-the-pants" evaluation was quite impressive! While it can cop a very traditional Ampeg-style tone, its inherent voicing (with the tone controls set flat) is more bright, open, clear, and “modern” sounding than any other Ampeg product I have played. So, it sounds good, and it’s tonally flexible. Great! The power ratings on this amp seemed to be almost wishful thinking, though. I believe this is a class D amp, and it’s rated at 1,300 watts into 4 ohms and 2,500 watts into 2 ohms! Not only are those numbers amazingly high, but very few class D bass head are rated to 2 ohms. Or at least allege to be… So, I had our Technical Editor, Tom Lees, put this amp on the bench (Audio Precision), and guess what? We were able to get about 1,200 watts out of it at 4-ohms and about 2,100 watts at 2-ohms! Wow! The observed wall voltage sag was fairly significant, at about 4 volts down, so if you could provide a steady, non-sagging 120 volts, my guess is that this amp could hit its rated output. That is amazing! What is even more impressive is that it hit these output numbers while delivering less than 5% THD!

The only flaw at all is a very light/thin scuff on the top panel (not front or back) from sliding into a rack. This unit looks new and is functionally perfect.

If I net [DEL]$1,500[/DEL] $1,350 I'll let it go, might consider another head + cash as an alternative. Look on evilbay and on here, there are almost NONE out there and they go for more.
Will consider trade for very nice/new condition heads like Thunderfunk 800, Carvin B2000, Mesa 400+, Ampeg SVT-4 Pro, Fender Super Bassman 300, Peavey VB-3 *** must be able to drive a 2ohm load (cash my way ONLY in all cases) My trade value is $1,500. THANKS
