Make no mistake - if I had the $$$, I'd be buying this back in a heartbeat. Fantastic bass, and it looks like shizoz took as good care of it as I did. Yes, I am the original owner, and bought it around 91 or 92. They do not make them with the birdseye necks like this anymore. Whoever ends up with this lovely beast will NOT be disappointed.

Of course, shizoz is an amazing guy, and you couldn't ask for a better person to deal with here on TB. Great communicator, honest, closes deals quickly, and packs well.

Bump for a listing that you can't go wrong to move on. I sure do wish it was me who could move on it...

This SR5 came from the period when they were using ceramic pickups in them. At some point in time (relatively recently?) they went back to using Alnico in SR5s, making them consistent with the rest of the Stingray line. AFAIK, the preamp has always been the same across all SR5s (and SR4s I think too, with the exception of the 2 band models).

This is a top notch bass, and whoever gets it will be extremely happy. I've been buying lottery tickets like crazy the past few weeks hoping to get money to buy it back!!!

That gloss bird's-eye neck makes a huge difference.Put that neck on any Ray you choose and you'll see what I'm talking about.The neck is the secret I know from neck swapping experience. I have swapped necks a lot.I put a 91 birdseye gloss on a 2001 Ray 5 and it improved the tone ten fold.These early gloss necks are ranked right up there with the pre EB skunkstripes.This is an amazing sounding bass here.

FWIW, I used to get lots of compliments from sound guys and recording engineers about the tone that came from this bass, so I'll confirm that this is a fantastic sounding instrument, whether it comes from the neck or all the other parts of it!

I just remembered that a couple of years ago I requested the SR5's "birthdate" from the Ernie Ball serial number database. It was built in March 1991.

So this can more accurately be called a 1991 SR5.
