For sale only is a unique and rare Modulus Q5, 20th Anniversary Edition, number 3 of 20 made. $2,200.
It sounds and plays great and is in outstanding condition. The B sting is super clear as you would expect from a 35” scale. The neck does have a truss rod but the stability of this bass is incredible. It is not unusual to place it in the case in tune and take it out and it's still dead on in tune. Neck and action on this bass is the best of any bass I have ever owned. The tone can go from piano clear to warm and growly.
I am the first owner and purchased it new from The Bass Place. According to Modulus "Your bass was built in 1999. It has a velvet black cherry finish and Bartolini M45C pickups with a 3 band NTMB preamp. The specs are the same as our regular Quantum 5; 1.85 at the nut, 2.75 at 24th fret and 17 mm string spacing at the bridge".
Rudy's in NYC recommended a Aguilar OP-3 preamp (vs. the Bartolini) and that is the preamp currently installed in this Q5. A micro switch was installed at that time for the preamp Mid frequency selector (+/- 16dB of cut and boost at either 400Hz or 800Hz).
I don't play 5 strings often and have not played bass actively over the past 10 years so this bass has mostly been stored in the house since purchase. So it time to find it a new home. Condition is at least 8.5 of 10 if not better. There are some minor marks here and there that don't show in the photos. The stacked tone knob shaft is slightly shifted from sitting in the stand (the stand arm and tone knob touched). It doesn't impact the tone functionality but wanted to disclose that to you.
Professionally set up by Arpeggio Guitars and wearing round wounds. Included is a Modulus hard shell case with some minor marks but in very good shape overall. Modulus manuals included as well. Black Schaller strap locks installed on the bass.
I will do my best to make and post some sound files over the weekend. Let me know if you have any questions.
