So is the neck size different for the 18mm spacing, or can the traditional mtd bridge be put on for 19mm spacing no issues?

Good question - I'm not sure. Going from 18mm to 19mm would push the outer strings 2mm closer to the edge of the fretboard. I would call/email Mike to get his opinion on that. In my experience, all my other basses are 19mm and I didn't have any trouble adapting to the 18mm - it really is a very slight difference. If anything, it just feels like you can get around the bass a little faster.

I was the original owner of this bass. A very great bass indeed! I believe the neck dimensions for a 19mm or 18mm spacing MTD is the same. You can adjust the Hipshot A bridge to get close to 19mm. I don't think you can swap the bridge with a B style Hipshot though. The neck height seems to be slightly higher than normal MTDs. It'll be great if someone can verify this with Mike.

Hey all,
This is truly a beautiful instrument and I've had an MTD 534 at the top of my wish list for a couple of years.
My main gigging bass is a Smith 5MW and I really like the 34in scale!
I am curious, though, as to why this particular bass is such a world traveler! It has moved from New York to Malaysia to the Great White North and now, it's moving again! Maybe this time to Colorado!!
I'm totally aware of (and been guilty of) the eternal quest for the perfect bass and I'd really like to have this one but....
Any insight or comments?
Thanks for a moment of your time.

Well, this bass has a pretty aggressive voice. After owning this spectacular bass for 2 years, I see myself preferring a rounder/smoother tone for the music I'm getting into. Hence, I ordered myself another MTD. This need to go to give room for another.
