Details

Offering this "vintage" MTD up for sale, to fund another MTD 535 purchase I just made.

This is a 535w, #37 of Mike's new MTD series. This build was finished in Feb 1995, after his contract with Gibson was completed.

This beauty has been lovingly played over the years -- the pictures tell the story. Most noticeable wear is a groove just above the neck pickup in the "thumbrest" position, plus some wear in the "slap zone."

Details:
-35" scale
-Swamp ash body (unbelievably resonant)
-Wenge neck and board (I love the feel of these older open grain wenge necks)
-Bartolini Electronics
-String spacing at the bridge is 19mm and nut width is 2"
-Weighs approx 8.5lbs per my bathroom scale
-Minor fret wear - not noticeable
-Includes the HSC and original letter from Mike Tobias

Very sweet wood build combination. There's something to be said about build simplicity. I have a 435W #20 with the same specifications, no top, natural finish.
The tone is tight, articulate with natural compression. Great for slap and chord technique styled playing.
Great price, if I was a five player, this bass would already be gone!

Thanks for the comments guys. Greenduke - agree with your comments completely. I'd also add that the low B on this bass is phenomenal -- sounds "tight" and balances perfectly with the other strings.

Wow, what a great bass. I've never seen one with the headstock inlay like that.

I haven't seen another MTD inlay quite like this one either - a MTD headstock within a headstock design. Kind of the ultimate expression of MTD fanboy-ness.
