So how does this vary tonally from a 535 or 435? Is it the same tone but just passive/active? I've always been interested in these and they do not pop up often.

It's been discussed in detail in the MTD thread, but it sounds like a mix between a jazz and a 535, but not really either at the same time. It's undeniably an MTD, but smaller dynamic range and more traditional sounding.

I'll chime in and say also that after talking with Mike, the Saratoga's have the same neck shape as his 535's, albeit in a 34 scale.

You mentioned brand new. How old is the bass?

I'm not sure, but it's a high serial number (well above 2000) which suggest around 2013
