I recently picked this up to experiment with but a custom that I had on order is going to be done earlier than I though so I need to make room. This is a spectacular instrument that I got from the original owner. I'll get some new pics up but it is dead mint condition - still has the protective plastic on the back.

Zon Sonus Special 5-string fretless (2013 build)
bubinga top over ash body (satin finish)
unlined phenowood fingerboard
composite neck (with truss rod)
3-band eq with 3-position mid eq switch
34" scale
17mm bridge spacing
8.6 lbs

Includes Zon gig bag. This bass is in excellent condition. Low action, plenty of mwah, and it has a truss rod. Excellent B-string and a classic fretless voice.

$1995 shipped/insured in the CONUS. Sorry, not interested in any trades.

Wow is this tempting. I am debating ordering a Roscoe with the "JB" pickup placement. Basically a Roscoe version of this bass. But this is $1,000 cheaper.

Steve, this is more similar than different compared to the Roscoe. The neck is very fast, and the phenowood is similar to diamondwood.

I wound up with my Roscoe 6 after not quite being able to put together a deal for an almost identical Zon 5 a year ago.
I came to the same conclusion - Roscoe or Zon, and then there's everybody else...
I'm glad things worked out the way they did, although like this deal - the Zon wouldda been less money...
I find it tempting too - and I don't even really want a(nother) 5 string ;-)

If you buy this and don't like it you can sell it and get your money back, then buy a Roscoe. Buy a new Roscoe, and sell it and you'll lose some dough. I agree with others though. ZON or Roscoe; you can't go wrong.

For sure Zon or Roscoe when it comes to fretless. Probably can't go wrong either way. The economics of this bass are a little better though as it's already taken the "drove it off the lot" hit. Never had a Zon - one of the few makers I haven't tried. I have had a Modulus fretless so I am familiar with the neck. The big difference is the 34" scale and 17mm spacing compared to the 35" scale, 18mm Roscoe - if 1 mm is a big thing.

My current bass is a Roscoe and I had a "Roscoe" version if this bass a couple years ago. It was probably the finest bass - fretted or fretless - that I have owned.

Tough call. My life would be easier if I liked Squiers. :-)

IMO, the neck on the ZON is better than the Modulus. Better feel, more warm and organic, and better profile. Not even close IMO. I've had plenty of both and would go ZON every time given the option.

I've owned a number of Zons. This neck is wicked fast - as good as my old Lightwave Sonus that was my favorite bass for nearly a decade.

These basses have incredible mwah and bark thanks to the pickup placement. i miss mine!
