Hi Folks. Sadly, it's time to part with the most beautiful bass I've ever owned. Sound matches the looks...this one is truly ROSCOE. This is an SKB Custom 5, s./n 6143. Mint condition. Amazing one-piece exhibition koa top over tightly grained ash, standard (maple/purpleheart/maple) neck with pau ferro board and diamondwood nut. 35" scale, 18.3mm bridge spacing. Bartolini soaps w/ NTMB pre. Guess on weight is high 8lb range. Not a lightweight, but certainly not heavy. HSC (also mint), letter from Keith Roscoe, and wrenches included. The exhibition top puts this one into Cadillac territory, and at current pricing it would sell for $5,000.
I'm asking $2,800. The folks who sell such instruments for a living tell me this is an aggressive number for such a great bass....just so you know I didn't pull it out of thin air or that you think I'm trying to gouge the next owner. So...I'm not really willing to stray from that price, although I'm happy to 'gross' that amount...meaning that I'll eat CONUS ground shipping and fees from whatever payment method we agree works best. For potential SF Bay Area suitors, let's talk. You get to play-before-buy, and $2,600 cash is a beautiful thing.
I'm the original owner, and the bass was used on one album...otherwise it hasn't left the house. As gorgeous as this one looks, it really has IT in terms of sound. Extremely touch sensitive, with sweet buttery mids that bare teeth when you dig in. Fat, full organic lows, and highs that go from sweet to mean with intensity. If you're familiar with *the* Roscoe sound, this one offers it in abundance. The blend knob becomes your best friend, and everything from fingerstyle to palm-mute to slap just SPEAKS. Pics and sound clips below.
I'm grateful for your time. Questions welcomed. Happy shopping. Let's do this.
