heres the last sale thread:

http://www.talkbass.com/threads/33-scale-ristola-6-string.1034887/

I got this instrument from andy dow (emjazz) who commissioned it from Ristola. new this bass would cost well over $3000.

the body and top are cherry, the neck is maple with purpleheart. matching cherry headstock. Andy did a lot of experimenting with pickups and he ended up keeping the Bartolinis in there- i normally dont like Barts, but in this particular bass they really seem to work.

it is exactly as it was when i got it from andy, currently strung with SIT stainless strings, and with a full setup by myself. i like the action very low and i leave a hint of buzzing, but just enough that it doesn't come through the amp.

i hope he doesn't mind, but heres a video of andy playing this instrument- bass solo starts 1 min in.

i got a great deal on it, and i am passing that along - $1750 shipped. i'll ship it in a very basic gigbag, and it will be very well protected and packed for shipping.

feel free to ask any questions- i think the video and pictures say an awful lot though.

****i am not interested in trades at this time! i need the cash. would only consider a trade if the majority of the deal was cash- so something worth $250 or less + cash, maybe- but even then theres pretty much nothing i actually need.

If I had the money I'd buy that bass back in a heartbeat. I miss it for sure. It's a really special bass, and sooooo easy to play with the narrow spacing and the 33" scale. I have a newer bass from Brian Ristola now, but man...this cherry bass is so happening! Thomas is top notch....buy with confidence from him. For this price you WILL NOT find a better bass! Breaks my heart not to have it back with me! Someone buy this and play the heck out of it!!

Wish I could find where this one ended up!!
Can't help directly, but I wish you luck on your quest! This popped up in my watched threads, and I remember thinking about it, the first time around. Maybe PM the OP?

I know who he sold it to, but it was sold after that. Lost track from there. My Ristola that replaced it will be with me for life, but I'd love to eventually get this one back. It was such a great playing and sounding bass, and completely different from my current Ristola.

Maybe shoot that person a message (if you haven't already)? I'm probably not saying anything you haven't already thought of.

I think the narrow spacing scared me away from this the first time -- kinda wish I'd picked it up now, but whatevs. Don't think I was ready for it at the time, though maybe I could do it now. (Haven't had a six for awhile -- been thinking about one -- a little bit -- again, and my ideas about what I might want in one have changed -- but I digress.)

Maybe someone will see this thread and recognize the bass? Maybe post a Want to Buy thread with links to your original sale thread and this one (and any others you find) and a link to that one in your sig?

I'll stop now -- again, good luck!

I am the current owner of the Ristola 33". I have been thinking of selling her because I am not playing much these days. In fact, I happened on this thread, hoping to find some good photos of her to send to Brian at Low End. She is in good shape, and is a wonderful instrument as you previous owners know. If you are interested in talking about a sale or trade, shoot me a line. I am looking for an American P/J 4 string. Thanks much!

Man, if you were looking for a 5 string or an upright I'd have something to trade. I had just started playing music full time again and then this virus hit. I'm totally out of work. Horrible timing I'm afraid. Breaks my heart that I can't send you some money for it. Sooo much history in that bass for me.

I totally understand, this virus has really compromised every musician I know. The history of this instrument for me is that I missed your initial sale but was pretty convinced by the videos that you posted. I kept my eyes open to see if it would resurface and it did! I have had it for a couple of years and really like it, I am not completely set on a change- she may stay with me for a bit yet.
All best wishes!

so funny you've tried tracking down the bass, because I also have.

this bass, there was just something about it. I could go on and on, but I don't expect to have the money to buy it back, so thats that...

speaks volumes about the bass that both previous owners have tried to buy it back!

I can't help but want to post it here...

who knows when another previous owner will want to know where the bass is...

i'm very lucky that things worked out such that I was able to buy back the cherry bass.

I think this is the first time i successfully bought back something I should have never sold.

this calls for a celebration, folks.
