This is NOT active - no built in electronics. When traveling I used a Vox AP-BS Bass amPlug headphone amplifier, at home I ran it through my M-Audio interface.
I've had this for a couple of years but I no longer travel for work so it's just sitting. Pretty much used in hotels and my home but I did take it to a few open mic jams, too where it surprised more than a few people with it's great tone.
