Bought this bass very recently for a couple of musical projects, and as an investment--and, frankly, for the fun of owning a piece of the 80's, which was when I came of age as a bassist.
However, one project finished, another didn't come to fruition, and I have some bills that need cleaned up. Turning it around faster than I ever thought.
Details:
Most comfortable bass I've ever played. I'm in love with headless, now. Everything works exactly as it should--bass is in EXCELLENT shape. Rails are smooth. Pickup is hot and growls a bit. I was working on John Taylor riffs, and it sounded fabulous. LOUD passive pup.
I discovered that in a band mix it doesn't have the full bottom end that I get from my Fenders (though I fixed that with amp eq). But I hadn't noticed until I was A/B-ing them on a song (Rio). It certainly cuts through better! But you ARE tonally limited to what can be done by moving the pickup.

Are you kidding?! :) I absolutely, absolutely love it. I posted about it in the Westone/Electra group.
* It's the most comfortable bass I own--light, hangs well.
* The balance puts the whole neck in exactly the right spot for my left hand.
* The tone is perfect for the catalogue of 80's songs I played in high school. Perfect. And the pickup movement is wicked cool, and it has a broad effect, within a certain range.
In fact, I took it to an audition for an 80's dance band, and got all kinds of comments on how I was nailing the sound. It was thrilling.
However, my opportunities to perform include way more bluegrass, classic rock, indie folk/rock, and community theater shows. And for those gigs my P and J basses cover everything I need, and this one won't do some important things those can for those genres. P bass with flats sound? Can't pull it off with The Rail.
And, sadly, I have a bill that HAS to be paid. :( This is one of two basses I've posted for sale, and I just sorted out a handful of effects pedals I'll be posting tomorrow.
For now, I just need to scale back.

The Westone instruments of this period come from the Matsumoku factory--this is the second Westone I've owned, and I've also had a few Vantage basses and a Vantage guitar from that period. While this is the most unique design, all of them were beautiful and incredibly well-made.

I once owned a Cort headless bass. I have a lot of respect for Cort's entry level instruments, but after that experience I always though that the entry-level Steinberger copies were toys compared to the original. I have been pleasantly surprised and educated. Lots of love for 80's Matsumoku instruments.
