Hi All,

Up for sale or trade is my 1972 Fender Precision bass. It has a J pickup that appears to have been added a long time ago. Based on that and the general condition, I suspect that the bass has been refinished. If so, it was an excellent job. It sounds great and everything works as it should.

The bass is lightweight at 8.2 lbs. The neck is a B width, but a very thin B width, measuring at about 1.55 inch. It has a brass nut. The frets are in good condition. The truss rod is in good condition and moves freely. There is a hairline crack from one of the screws on the E tuner, but this is pretty common on vintage Fenders and is not an issue. The neck is stable and holds tune well. The back of the neck appears to have been refinished at one time. The tuners and miscellaneous hardare appear original.

The added J pickup seems to be a Seymour Duncan, I have no idea what model.

I bought the bass about a year ago here on TB. At that time is was really in need of some TLC. I cleaned it up, corrected a few issues, rewired it, and it is now in pretty good shape, if I do say so myself.

The P pickup is original, the wiring is new. I relocated the output jack to the side for a cleaner look. The pick guard is not original. The bridge is period correct, with the long G screw, but is not original to the bass. The instrument has see it's share of use and has plenty of honest wear and nicks, so it s no collector's item. But if you are looking to get into a early 70's Fender of player's grade, this may be the opportunity for you. It will ship in a very beat up case that I assume is original.

I am only selling the bass because I am always looking to try something new and it is time for a change. The price represents pretty closely what I have into it, but I know what the market is like now and am certainly willing to entertain offers. As far as trades go, let me know what you have. I am really gassing for a SCPB right now, but will entertain all offers of four string fretted basses of approximately equal value.

Any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Cheers,

Russ

Stuck somewhere in the past
Then someone had "borrowed" just a couple of your photos for an ad, but they were lower resolution. I distinctly remember the P + J pickups and the pickguard scratch under the P set from Sunday or Monday with a price too good to be true (as it obviously was!). I had the ad saved as a "favorite" to contact later on this week, but deleted it in the interest of making space for more faves.... now it doesn't turn up with a search. Hopefully, nobody fell for the old Nigerian send-me-a-deposit-to-hold-it scam! It seems that only the most interesting instruments get the attention of the tricksters.
Congrats on the legitimate TB sale!
