To the best of my knowledge, this bass is all original except for the absence of the rubber bridge crown and one tuning machine screw that was replaced. It is from the mid-to-late 1960's. Since it's an instrument that has seen a fair amount of playing time there is some wear, particularly on the scroll and lower bouts, and the transitional finish areas on the neck clearly show lots of use. However, the top is in nice shape except for a couple of cracks near the treble side upper bout (shown). The bass is strung with Helicore Solos.
Most importantly, there is no seam separation at all (a common issue with Baby Basses from this era) and there are no fingerboard cracks. The fingerboard was dressed a couple of years ago by Matt, former repairman at Lemur Music, now working at Kolstein, and he did a great job.
The pickup and electronics work perfectly except for a bit of scratchiness in the tone pot, and the bass sounds exactly like it should.
The original gig bag disintegrated a long time ago, but I have a really excellent padded bag from JP Custom Cases that I'm including with the bass.
In the photos, there are some areas that look like swirls or flaws in the finish, but they are actually just reflections.
I'd prefer a local Southern California sale. I'm in Laguna Beach, but I'd be willing to meet somewhere within a reasonable driving distance. I will detach the neck and ship the bass within the continental US if you kick in for the shipping. I'd most likely use FedEx Ground.
I'm asking $1900 plus shipping.
