I hate to sell this one because it has tone for days, but my wussy back can't play it for hours like I need to do... So here it goes.
Very original vintage 1978 Fender p bass. B neck - 1.625. 11.2 lbs. Ash body in black on maple fretboard.
Easier to state what is not original - missing the tug bar and covers. Two changed out pickup screws. Someone added a ground wire from the pots to the body cavity.
That's it. Otherwise all original - pickups, bridge, tuners, knobs, etc etc. No routes. No extra screw holes. Original black finish. Pots date to 78 (13778) and serial number is S8 but bass could be 78-81.
Includes original hang tag (matching serial number) and case. Pickguard is original with matching serial number on back and standard issue crack at the jack (all the way through) with amateur repair job. Looks ok from a few feet away.
Case is in decent shape and used to be covered in stickers. Another sticker left a mark on the headstock.
One ding on back of neck at first fret. Doesn't get in the way.
Someone carved some words on the back of the body (fairly light and hard to photograph but see pics). A bit more carving of a name under the pickguard into the body. Bass was obviously much played and loved.
Mild to moderate fret wear. Nut is probably not original but frets are. Small cigarette burn in typical location. Set up with medium action with La Bella flats. Probably needs a fret dress and level but plays well and pickup is strong. Great sustain and pronounced mid grunt. I've got a bunch of vintage P basses and this one ranks near the top in terms of tone.
Comes with Schaller strap locks plus the original strap locks.
