Sweet price on a great bass. I have one in LPB and it's honestly the nicest sounding and playing Jazz I've owned and probably played minus some vintage stuff that was way out of reach of my budget. GLWTS!

the bottom of the bass there are those dings as shown in the pic but the black marks are mostly scuffs that cleaned right up.

The 64 also has a capped rosewood fingerboard rather than a slab, which to me is the real deal breaker...You can always buy a second one

When it's capped the maple neck has a convex or arched top to it, the fingerboard material is concave and thus an even thickness from end to end.

A slab fingerboard both the maple in the neck and the rosewood are cut flat, with that you have a thicker piece of rosewood in the middle of the fingerboard than you do on the ends.

Ah-- got it. I've always worked with slab fingerboards when I built necks. I didn't even know about capped fingerboards-- I don't think they were ever mentioned in the books I read about it. I imagine that slab fingerboards are a lot easier to make.

It's only an educated guess but I believe this is part of what makes the vintage fenders sound different from contemporary ones and sets apart the 64av from a 62AV in terms of pulling off a true authentic specs.

I've never owned an original style P or tell but I think that slab refers to the body, am I wrong on that?

Are you saying you prefer the capped ? Do you feel there is a difference in sound? I always prefer the slab but that was for looks only . I don't think it would affect the sound. GLWTS
