Ok... I really think I am riding this crazy train to it's final stop... After selling my fretted TFL5 last week, I had intentions of replacing it but in a complete 180, I didn't realize I would be willing to part with this one also... Still not sure, but here it is.

I think my 20+ year musical passion is coming to an end, it's been on break for a long while and I don't seem to have the desire to rekindle it anytime soon... So, I've decided anything remotely high-end will go and maybe I'll keep a much cheaper instrument around just in case, but probably not. The only bass I will have after this one is my U-bass... Look out for that one too, possibly!

TFL5 Fretless Relic
  • Alder body in a relic lipstick (?) red finish w/ matching headstock
  • 1-piece Maple neck with Ipe (Brazilian hardwood) fingerboard w/ Pupleheart fretlines and glow-in-the-dark side dots
  • Black Hipshot A-style bridge and Ultra-Lite tuners
  • Marco single-coil pickups w/ passive VVT electronics
  • Dunlop Straplocks
  • 34.5" scale length
  • 19mm string spacing at bridge
  • Approx. 9.5 lbs
  • No case or bag (though if this sells, I will have 2 iGigs with no basses... Look out!)
Overall comments:
I think this is a great bass... It makes me believe that I could play fretless successfully. I ordered this one and, except for choosing the color, I let Marco do what he does. Marco custom winds the pickups for added midrange on his fretless basses - he wants that Jaco tone, even though that is not my main thing on fretless. With both pickups on, this sounds super clear and deep and if you can make the playing adjustment (lessen the sustain/mwah), you can make it sound like a fretted bass in the lower registers and play "normal" basslines, if that makes sense. The neck pickup solo'd gets you a pretty thick P-bass thing going, it really does... It's my next favorite tone on this bass after both pickups on. The bridge pickup solo'd achieves the typical results... It does give you that Jaco thing minus his hands/brain, but it imitates that tone quite well while remaining thick/fat. The tone pot is very useable... You can get really deep dub type sounds to a really bright modern sound - all without a preamp. I also enjoy slapping on this bass! I really do like the tone of fretless slap - slap isn't just reserved for 70's J-basses/Marcus thing, wouldn't you agree? The neck profile is also very comfy as well as the fingerboard radius, I don't know the measurement but it might be 12"... I absolutely love it. As far as the condition goes, well, this one is a relic... Hopefully there is nothing more I need to say about that. You're either into it or you're not. There are light surface scratches on the fingerboard but nothing that has dug into the wood - it's a really hard wood this Ipe.

Questions? Please pm.

$1,100.00 + shipping, Firm. Paypal e-check, Postal Money Order, Cashiers Check or Personal Check (will need to clear prior to shipping) accepted.

No trades. I'll just keep this one if I can't sell.

More pics to come as the bass is more relic than what the pics represent, but here is what I have right now: Marco TFL5 Fretless by Yohann Cobarrubias | Photobucket

Thank you, but no trades at this time, especially fretless trades since I would just keep this one if not sold.

To the top!

I also forgot to mention in the OP that this has one of the best low B's I've experienced... Tight, clear and huge sounding while staying balanced with the rest of the strings.

My Marco fretless is a work of art as is this one no doubt , you can't tell here but the glowy dots are super cool and as for relics it's very well done his pickups are magic and yours has a custom color headstock , soo sweet . GLWTS

Thanks! Marco's work is very underrated. He's one talented builder. And yes, I had to talk Marco into doing the matching headstock since the relics don't normally come that way, since they're supposed to be quicker and easier for him to make hence the more than fair price for a handmade instrument.

Bump! Will entertain reasonable offers... Or possibly trading down for cash plus a Lakland JO5/55-60/55-AJ/55-02, Bass Mods K5/6, Fender Jazz Bass 24 V, or similar. Maybe a Yamaha TRB 1005/6.

Handmade goodness from a boutique builder for an off-the-line production price.

Hi TB family... Taking 1 last shot at moving this - big/final price drop. This is my bottom line (for now), if it still doesn't go, I guess I am meant to keep it.

$1,100 plus shipping. Firm.

Daniel! Not quite yet but we're hoping to wrap up the deal towards month end. And I really have been purposely leaving it alone as I am trying to disconnect from it... If I play it, I may want to keep it... Haha. It's truly a fine instrument, I must say, but if I am only keeping 1 bass around I need a fretted.
