Well I have a Fernandes J style 5 string and a 73 Fender Jazz. As the Audere website says some vintage instruments and some other types of Js have a slot that narrows slightly at the jack end. It has to be the width of a 9 volt battery laying flat to fit. I had a 1997 Fender american 5 string jazz several years ago and the Audere fit fine. Anyone who's interested please check to make sure it will fit before you make an offer to buy it. Of course, for those of you who are crafty widening the slot may not be a big deal for you.
