I have a 1956 American Standard bass for sale. It's a nice butterscotch color with a Makassar Ebony fingerboard and a Box Wood tailpiece. It has a Fishman Full Circle pickup ($200) and Gotz endpin ($125).
Beautiful bass, sounds big, thinner fingerboard with higher profile neck is comfy.
The bass has some very mild cracking on the outer ply of the ribs. I posted a thread about it and got some good feedback from veteran luthiers on this site, read more here.
I am selling this bass for $2000 firm. Between acquirement and setup, I have spent literally almost double that on this instrument. This is a literal steal.
You may have seen earlier versions of this ad. I have been trying to buy two things this summer: a vehicle and an engagement ring. I now own a vehicle. However, an engagement ring has yet to be acquired. I never play this bass, I have never been in love with it. It's in great condition for its age, sound lovely and has tons and tons of life.
This double bass is not meant to be a permanent part of my life. My girlfriend is!
Would include my well-loved Messina bag (blue, $400) and my cheap Chinese bow (German, white hair, sleeve, Carlsson rosin) and two bass method books (Ray Brown and Ron Carter).
I live in Portland, Maine. If you want shipping, we'll have to discuss, but I am open to it.
Thanks for looking!
