Lakland 55-14

USA Lakland, made in Chicago
SN 550021
35" Scale 5-string bass
Candy Apple Red
Rosewood fingerboard
MMJ configuration with LH3 preamp
8 lbs 14 oz

I bought this bass last summer. It has upgraded Lakland pickups, a new design that fixes the dreaded low volume A-string issue. They sound great and every string is the same volume. Also, it seems that new 55-14s are shipping with the gray Skyline tuners, but this one has the same tuners that 55-94s have. Aesthetically, I like these better.

This is a killer bass. Loud acoustically, nicely balanced, with a great neck and set up with low action. It has all the standard US Lakland features, including immaculate fretwork, oiled neck, US hipshot tuners and bridge, etc. Comes with a black Lakland-branded hardshell case.

The only thing keeping this bass from being mint is a small set of surface scratches (in the clear coat) that happened when changing the MM pickup. It's right near the pickup. I'll upload a picture in a bit.

$2250 shipped in US (PayPal only).

Yes, it's a great bass. Super versatile. The US Lakland neck is a thing of beauty. I would never sell it but I've found that the 35" scale doesn't work for me.

Here's an audio sample showing my iffy noodling skills AND the string to string balance that these new (prototype?) Lakland MMJ pickups have.

LINK.

FYI - I start with all pickups full up, then pan using the blend knob to neck pickup and bridge pickup. Then I put the blend at center detent and toggle the MM pickup between front (60s J) and rear (70s J) positions.
