Typically, Fender single coil pups were waxed to reduce micro phonics and not hum buckers.
Any way to know if these weren’t rewound at the time of wax potting?
What is the DC resistance and is there a handwritten date on the back of the bobbins?

Hi, I'm interested in the pickups. Would like to know the ohm readings. What are you looking for? I have a et of 72' pickups original, and a Old Kraftsman Short scale Bass w/speed bump pu. Also a bunch of speakers. Let me know what you are looking for, or if you have a cash price. thanks, Rocky

I thought Fender pickups of this era were dipped in varnish or shellac to quell the microphonics, not wax?

I pulled these out of a franken-bass that I bought off a guy from here on TB. Here's what he said in the description about the pu's:

Picked up a long time ago from an old guy that had it laying around with a few other parts from a 1962 or 63 P he had broken the neck on. Was personally pulled from the body and saw the neck and other parts. It's the older version with the dark bobbins. He had gotten the pickup wax potted in the 70's or 80's. The leads coming off of the pickup have been replaced as the stock ones were in rough shape (cloth insulation was deteriorating and copper was starting to show through). The new leads are new "vintage cloth" wire. The old glue and black foam that was deteriorating has been slowly and painstakingly removed. Original black covers included.

I will look for a date. Not sure if they were rewound but based on the details that the seller included I would assume that he would have disclosed if he had rewound them as well.

I'm open to anything. I originally posted this in the effects page because I am more of a pedal hound than anything else.

With all due respect: I would not assume that. Indeed I would not assume that the seller even knew the provenance of that pickup before he owned the bass that contained it.

If these are legit you can get a good amount of many for them but not 5000.00, you can probably get a whole vintage bass for 5000 if you look hard enough..

He said that he pulled them out of a 62-63 p-bass that had a broken neck and was being parted out. I've personally never had an issue with anyone here in this community when it comes to this kind of stuff, so I believe(d) him.

Totally understand if you don't. I'm just trying to provide full disclosure.

if you want some serious offers, you need some pictures of the coil as well as the dcr. it looks like theres coil tape on there which needs to be removed imo. between that, new leads and any evidence of it being old being cleaned off, that pickup could be anything.
