Details

For sale is a well played MIJ Fender Precision bass, model PB70-US in vintage white. The body is alder and the fretboard is rosewood. The split pickup is made in the USA. The 'US' version go for slightly more than the regular PB70 versions. This is a P serial 'Crafted in Japan' which dates it to 1999-2002.

I am the second owner, and as far as I can tell, all parts are original. It's currently strung with Chromes (about 3 months old strings) and weighs about 9.5 lbs. There are two small cracks at the neck joint that don't affect play. The biggest ding is on the back of the bass.

I just used it for a recording session and I've got my eye on something else, so this must go!

$575 shipped in the CONUS. PayPal preferred. Comes with a generic soft case/gig bag.

Flats tend to have more tension than roundwounds, but the neck is quite sturdy. I did have some tuning issues, but managed to adjust the saddle heights and the intonation. You may need to do so as well, along with the action, to fit your playing style/needs.

Photos to follow.

Why exactly is this still here??? This is a screaming deal. The MIJ Precisions are simply awesome. Many have quartersawn necks. The "US" pickups sound huge. The PB70's 40 mm nut width is very close to Jazz dimensions.

FWIW, I play my MIJs while my American Standard sits in the case. GLWTS.

Can you tell me any more about those cracks at the neck joint? Are they in the paint only? Is there any apparent splitting of the wood underneath?
Many thanks.

Some additional questions:
- the string spacing at the nut - is it a P spacing, or a J spacing (the MIJs seem to come with both, depending on build date and other options)?
- what about the depth of the neck? Thick, "normal", thin?
- it looks like an extra screw on your pickguard. Is there a thumbrest that I can't see because it is black on black?

Thanks and best wishes.

Finish cracks at the neck are common in Fenders and don't necessarily imply any issue with the underlying wood.
