Hello,
I have an amazing custom F-bass for sale. It's a staggeringly good fretless. It was originally spec'd and ordered by Mitch Starkman who has a great relationship with George and clearly knows his stuff!
Thanks!
Here is the original sale post from Mitch S.:
This is the real deal - near mint Alain Caron 5 with some fabulous upgrades. Its been said before these are the King of fretless basses and I cant disagree. For those who may not know this model... tonally its a perfect mix of acoustic/electric fretless "growl' and warmth with the flexibility to go either way from the great preamp and piezo (built into the handmade ebony bridge) ,and the propietary magnetic pup that goes single or humcancelling. Its totally organic and natural with much of its tone coming from a chambered flame maple body and Gaboon ebony fingerboard. Plays like a dream - effortless IMO.
This particular bass is a special example made for me by George that has several specs that I believe make it even better and are an additonal cost when ordered new:
-Upgrade flame Redwood top- in addition to the great look we found it contributes favorably to the tone of the instrument
-34" scale instead of the standard 34 1/2". This makes the bass totally familiar and comfortable with anyone used to playing 34" scale basses.
-18 1/2mm string spacing instead of 19mm. This makes the bass just a hair more comfortable to me , and makes string skipping and fast passages even more a breeze.
-Hand selected one piece body ( flamed- see pics). Great for tone IMO.
-Hand selected one piece neck for open tone as above.
-Nitro finish- this is a great option that contributes to this bass being organic and natural/open sounding while also adding a great golden or aged hue to the look of the bass over the standard finish.
-Bass is a comfortable 9.2 pounds and balances beautifully
Comes with the Fbass preamp that includes volume with hum/single knob, piezo on/off and blend knob, active/passive and passive tone knob, bass, mid and treble.
New with upgrades this bass pushes over $8000. Price includes FBass gigbag but does not include shipping.
This is a great chance to own a masterpiece fretless with some great one -of -a- kind specs .... a rare opportunity. This bass is definitely worth it and at a reasonable asking price for what it is.
NOTE: The trip from Canada to me in NY during the winter was a little too cold for the bass. When I got it, the nitro finish on the body developed a few hairline cracks -- These are clearly finish cracks and not structural in any way. A very common thing with Nitro finishes.
Not a big deal but I like full disclosure.
This is a ridiculously good price for a fretless of this caliber! Grab it while you can!
Really looking to sell outright but will entertain a few trades. Mostly interested in ones that net me cash.
